Frequently Asked Questions

Freeze-dried candy is regular candy that has been frozen to an extreme temperature, then placed in a vacuum chamber where the frozen water inside sublimates — converting directly from ice to vapor without passing through a liquid state. The result is a structurally transformed piece of candy that is lighter, crunchier, and significantly more intense in flavor than the original.

Removing the moisture concentrates the flavor compounds into a smaller, lighter matrix. The crunch is also a factor — the fracture of the expanded structure releases flavor faster and more intensely than chewing through the dense original. Many people describe the experience as the same flavor, but amplified 3–4× and delivered all at once.

Properly sealed freeze-dried candy has a shelf life of 12–24 months at room temperature, far exceeding the original candy. The absence of moisture prevents the microbial growth that causes spoilage. Once opened, consume within 2–3 weeks for peak texture and flavor — exposure to humidity will eventually cause it to re-absorb moisture and lose the crunch.

Each specimen is sourced from commercial candy, which may contain common allergens including wheat, dairy, soy, and tree nuts depending on the product. We do not add any ingredients — we only transform the structure of the candy. Always check the source candy's allergen label. Full allergen details are on our Safety Data Sheets page.

Each batch is sealed in moisture-barrier packaging and shipped in a padded mailer. Freeze-dried candy is fragile — the expanded structure can fracture if crushed, though this does not affect flavor. Shipping is available within the continental United States. Expect 3–5 business days from clearance. We'll email you a tracking number.

All batches are currently limited runs available only to waitlist members. Join the waitlist on the homepage or shop page with your email, and you'll be notified when a batch is ready for acquisition. Waitlist members get 48-hour early access before any public release.

Yes — reach out via the Contact page with your suggestion. We prioritize experiments based on scientific interest (unusual structure, complex flavor compounds, or unexpected sublimation behavior) as well as community requests.

Not yet. As the lab scales, wholesale and retail partnership inquiries will be considered. Contact us with your proposal and we'll keep you in the loop.
